Who your report goes to
Every weekly report goes to one person: the person its author reports to. Who reports to whom is your organisation’s reporting hierarchy. It works like an organisation chart, with the CEO at the top.
How reports follow the hierarchy
Section titled “How reports follow the hierarchy”| If you report to | Your weekly report goes to |
|---|---|
| A manager | That manager’s Work Reports page, under Team submissions. |
| The CEO | The CEO’s Work Reports page, in the month’s view. |
A manager’s own report goes up the same way: to the manager above them, or to the CEO. Your weekly report page shows who receives yours, beside Reporting to.
Your place in the hierarchy also decides your role. Someone who has people reporting to them becomes a Manager, and sees their team’s reports. See Roles and what each can do.
Messages about the hierarchy
Section titled “Messages about the hierarchy”| Message | Where | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| “Your reporting line isn’t set up yet” | A staff member’s weekly report page. | Nobody has been set as the person you report to, so your report has nowhere to go. |
| “Reporting hierarchy incomplete” | A manager’s work reports page. | The hierarchy isn’t set up for work reports yet, so VirgilTrack can’t find your report for this week. |
| “No one reports to you yet” | The CEO’s work reports page. | Nobody in the hierarchy reports to the CEO. |
In each case, ask your CEO or an administrator to check the hierarchy. If you are the CEO, check it yourself: see Reporting lines and roles. The messages on screen mention account settings: the hierarchy is in Settings, under Roles & hierarchy. See Settings.
Change who someone reports to
Section titled “Change who someone reports to”Who can use this:CEOAdministrator
The CEO and administrators manage the hierarchy, in Your picture, then Reporting hierarchy (also Settings, then Roles & hierarchy). There you drag a person onto their new manager. The change saves straight away, and this week’s reports follow the new line at once, including reports already submitted this week.
Moving people can change their roles: someone who gains a person reporting to them becomes a manager, and someone left with nobody reporting to them becomes an employee, unless they manage a department. For the steps, and for exactly how roles change, see Reporting lines and roles.
If reports look out of step
Section titled “If reports look out of step”If submitted reports don’t seem to follow the hierarchy you see, the CEO or an administrator can select Repair Work Reports at the top of Roles & hierarchy. See Repair Work Reports.
