Every task has a conversation. Use it to ask a question, share an update, or bring a colleague in, so everything about the work stays in one place.
Anyone in your organisation can read a task’s conversation and write in it.
Write a message
Section titled “Write a message”- Open the task. See A task’s page.
- Go to Conversation, at the bottom of the page.
- Type your message in the box, Write a message. Type @ to mention someone; Ctrl+Enter sends. A message can be up to 2,000 characters.
- Select Send, or press Ctrl + Enter.
Your message appears straight away, for you and for anyone else who has the task open.
Mention a colleague
Section titled “Mention a colleague”Mention someone to make sure they see your message, even if the task isn’t theirs.
- In the message box, type @ and the first letters of the person’s name.
- Select the person in the list that appears. Their full name is added after the @.
- Finish your message and select Send.
Under the box, “Will notify” and the names show who will be told. Typing @ and someone’s full name works too.
The people you mention get a notification and an email straight away, “… mentioned you on: …”, with a Reply on the task button. Their names stand out in the message.
Who is told about a message
Section titled “Who is told about a message”| Person | What they get |
|---|---|
| People you mention | An email and a notification. Whether the email comes depends on their notification settings. |
| The person the task is for, and the person who delegated it | A notification, “New message from …”, unless you mentioned them (then they get the mention instead). |
| You | Nothing: you’re never told about your own messages. |
See Notifications.
See when your message is read
Section titled “See when your message is read”When the person the task is for, or the person who delegated it, opens the task, the messages from others are marked as read. Under your latest message, “Seen” and a time show when that happened.
Unread messages show as a blue number beside the task on the Tasks page, and count towards the red number beside Tasks in the menu.
See who is there
Section titled “See who is there”- Here now, at the top of the page, shows colleagues who have the task open at the same moment.
- When someone is writing, you see, for example, “Johannes Iipinge is typing…”.
Messages from the calendar
Section titled “Messages from the calendar”When you open a strategy task from the calendar, its Discussion shows the same messages as the task’s page. A message posted there appears on the task’s page too.
From the calendar, only the people you mention are told, with a notification, “… mentioned you”. The person the task is for and the person who delegated it don’t get the “New message from …” notification. See Update a strategy task from the calendar.
